This course trains operators working in locations equipped with forklifts or other forms of Mechanical Handling equipment, to operate those machines to a national standard. It takes between 1 and 5 days to complete, depending on prior experience.

Who is it for

  • Any person responsible for operating a Forklift Truck

Training Method

  • Theory – at the end of the course the trainees will have to undertake a written-associated knowledge test. During the theory session trainees will also be shown one or two theory DVDs
  • Practical - these will include, introduction to the lift truck, pre-use inspections and exercises for trainees e.g. Steering, stacking/de-stacking, vehicle loading/unloading (where applicable) Battery care or refueling, and after full practical training the trainees will undertake the pre-use check test and a test of basic operating skills

Course Content

  • Demonstrate Safe Working Practices
  • Complete a Pre-Shift Check to ensure the Forklift is in safe working order.
  • Understand lifting capacities of different trucks
  • Be able to demonstrate a knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Demonstrate safe working practices of Stacking and De-Stacking.
  • Be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of theoretical tuition.
  • Be aware of their responsibilities for safety in the workplace

Additional Information

  • Trainees will be provided with a course manual to assist with the theory side of the course.
