How 2 wallpaper

How 2 wallpaper

You don't need to be an experienced DIYer to wallpaper a wall. Follow these simple steps to make sure you get a neat finish to your room by wallpapering correctly. Our steps are easy and simple to follow and allow you to create a quality finish. We also have links to our products at the base of this page where you can see the type of equipment you can hire from us for the job!

We have both 110V and 240V wallpaper strippers available to you but we recommend using our 240V equipment when working within your own home. Also our equipment is available next day as part of our 'Everyday Hire Product Guarantee'.

Step 1

Remove any wallpaper that is currently on the wall and make sure it is smooth and free of any debris. Make sure the surface of the wall is dry and measure the length of the wall. Unwrap the wallpaper and measure out enough lengths for your first wall (remember to leave at least 100mm for trimming and more if your wallpaper has a pattern).

Step 2

Mix your wallpaper paste and start to apply to your first sheet, making sure the whole area is covered from edge to edge. When the sheet is fully covered pickup the sheet by folding the pasted sides inwards so the paste doesn't touch the front of the sheet, leave this sheet to one side whilst you apply paste to another 2 sheets, this lets the paste absorb into the paper and eases the application.

Step 3

Hang the first piece on the corner of the wall by lightly pressing on the top section with an overlap on the top of around 50mm. Slide the paper so that it is square on the corner and use a brush to smooth out any air bubbles. Trim the excess paper from the top and the bottom by creasing it and cutting with scissors.

Step 4

Repeat the process with the next sheet, making sure the paste is covered to the edges. When hanging, make sure the first sheet and the new sheet are pressed together to make a seamless join. Again brush the piece to remove and bubbles and wipe away any excess paste away from any joins.

Step 5

Finish off the remainder of the wall, and for any corners, measure the width of the final piece needed and add around 20mm, press this onto the wall and curve around the corner, either trim the excess or paper over when starting the new section of wall.
